Info

The Altona Chemical Complex began production in the early 1960s and is the largest production centre for petrochemicals and plastics in Australia today. The Qenos Altona site covers 103 hectares and is located approximately 15 km west of the Melbourne central business district. Qenos has recently committed to a substantial investment in the Australian plastics industry that will position Qenos for future growth and development.

The Altona expansion project will secure 15 years’ supply of feedstock worth more than $2 billlion. The project brings significant environmental benefits from improved production efficiency, reducing both water and greenhouse gas intensities. The main project activity is at the Olefins (ethylene production) site. The visit will include a brief presentation by project and instrument/electrical personnel and a walking tour around the facilities including the construction workfronts.

Highlights will include:

Cogen facility which represents Australia’s largest industrial co-generation plant to be built in a decade.
Control system upgrades
Major New process equipment (Acetylene converters and ethylene superfractionator)

All tour group participants:
Legs and arms covered full length, sturdy fully enclosed footwear, BYO PPE (or will be provided at site)
